The Statue of Our Lady Of Lourdes
It was during the Centenary celebrations in commemoration of the apparition of Our Lady at Lourdes in 1958 that the statues of Our Lady of Lourdes was blessed by Rev. Fr. Martin O.S.B., and prominently placed at the corner of the tennis court where it remained until it was refurbished and placed in front of the Brother's Chapel in 1992. During the ceremony the School, Staff and pupils were consecrated to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Father Martin in his sermon exhorted the boys always to salute Our Lady whenever they passed her statue by breathing a little prayer to her. "Our Lady", he said, "would in return spread around us the mantle of her protection." The elevation of the head is such that she perpetually gazes at the College. The College Bell Brig Meteor 1850
Legend has it that this was a ship's bell taken from the wreck of the brigantine METEOR, commissioned in 1850 and which lay in the San Fernando harbour. Be that as it may, it was presented to the College Principal, Bro. Jerome Kelly in 1962 by Mr. Richard Spink, then General Manager of Caroni Limited, at Usine Ste. Madeline. This was a parting gesture from Mr. Spink with whom the College negotiated for the acquisition of the initial 5 acres of grounds at Union Hall. The original plan was to erect a stadium called the Presentation College Union Hall Stadium. The grounds, used extensively at present for football matches, now measures 8 acres. |
