Presentation College has always had a rich tradition of Academic Excellence. The first Island and National Scholarship was obtained in Mathematics in 1959. The first Jerningham Gold Medal was won by 'Pres' in 1963. Between 1963 and 1972 the College won 19 of the 40 First places and 15 of the 40 second places in the National Awards. It also secured the Jerningham Gold Medal for the best student for six of these years. It is true to say that the 1960;s were the Golden Era of Presentation College, San Fernando, what with 'Pres' winning the prestigious Gold medal a record 4 times consecutively, and Roy Chong Kit winning it twice, the first time before his fifteenth birthday! - A national and unbroken record to date! However, it was during the Silver Jubilee in 1973 that 'Pres' gained the distinction of winning both the Jerningham Gold and Silver Medals in the same year. The recipients were Floyd Chadee (Silver) and Kevin Gangar (Gold). The College also had the distinction of being awarded the first places in Geography at both Ordinary and Advanced Levels and was the recipient of awards from the Geography Association. It was in this same year that Mr. Patrick Manning said that in his view the College was producing since 1948, "men of distinction, and, in addition, winning gold medals since 1963 - sufficient gold to create inflation."

This excellence is the fruit of combined efforts of disciplined, hard working students, dedicated, resourceful, enthusiastic teachers and staff working under the inspired leadership of great Principals, all filled with God's Grace and guided by His Holy Spirit.

Despite these successes and with the change in emphasis away from the winning of scholarships to the development of an 'an all round student', one Gold has eluded us in the last 25 years - the President's Medal. However, perhaps in this our Golden Jubilee Year the Gold will finally return to Presentation College San Fernando.
